This year’s Lynn charity stages rally, organised by King’s Lynn & district motor club, marks the club’s first multi-use event at Sculthorpe airfield, following the late cancellation last year due to foot & mouth disease restrictions imposed by the MOD
Again supported by our event sponsors G.B. Industrial Contractors and the Ffolkes Arms Hotel (Hillington), it is intended to run another of our trademark events offering challenging layouts, slick organisation and value for money whilst providing something a little different to previous events at this venue. New sections of stages have been obtained which we hope will provide competitors with interesting routes whilst avoiding the ‘point and squirt’ of many airfield stages. In dropping back to our traditional November date we also welcome back two of the regional associations and run at a time of year which should be beneficial on both tyre and car wear
While Sculthorpe is still in its infancy on its return as a stage rally venue, very favourable comments have been made by the majority of competitors on previous events. Quotes such as “definitely worth the trek to Norfolk” and “looking forward to next year and other events at Sculthorpe” give you an idea of how well its return has been received. We are also pleased to be returning to one of the key venues from our popular ‘tour of Norfolk’ multi-venue rallies from the mid-90s
We have been able to keep the entry fee at last year’s level to maximise value for money for you, the competitors. Once again the event is supporting the East Anglian Air Ambulance service, our nominated charity, to which a proportion of each entry fee is donated
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Sculthorpe on the 9th November, whether as competitors, officials or marshals
The organising team
Originally opened in October 1943, Sculthorpe was home to many RAF squadrons through World War II, until it was closed for reconstruction in 1944. Once he base was reopened in 1949, the main runway had increased in length to 3000 yards and was the longest heated runway in Europe
